One thing that doesn't come through when you edit down a 50-mile ride into a three-minute video is the concept of scale. This is pretty ironic because when you're "out there" it continually smacks you between the eyes -- just how enormous it all is.

Then it was a brief scenic drive over the pass into France and the alpine wundertown of Chamonix. We were quickly out the hotel door to catch the Gornergratbahn rack railway up to 10,100 feet to stand in awe beneath Monte Rosa, the Matterhorn, and glaciers.
