Bread&Butter
Cullen wakes us at 8:00 a.m.
He has been skating through the streets of Barcelona all night and is still on that crazy jet lag binge of activity that immediately proceeds the terrible crash of exhaustion. But as a lifelong skateboarder, he uses his time well, sussing out all the spots of this extremely famous skate town. Blair drew him a map and the local skaters helped him on his way.
The brotherhood of skateboarding is alive and well in Barcelona
He sounds stoked, and we plan to meet at 11:00 a.m. at the Bread & Butter show, which is a few miles away at the City Convention center.
Christy and I doze until 9:00 a.m., and then head down the narrow lane our hotel is on to a bakery we spotted the day before. Chocolate croissant and tiny espresso shot for me; a cheese croissant and fresh orange juice for Christy. Suitably nourished (actually still hungry) we head up Barcelona’s most famous Ramblas to the St Josef market, which is a riot of color and smells.
It’s a long walk to the B&B show and an even longer day, but a great show full of brands that would be very forward leaning and fresh in America. In fact, it’s nearly a sure bet that some of them will be the “next big thing” in a few years. Which one of the hundreds spread out over four levels? You could be a rich man (Kinda. Sorta. Maybe.) if you figured that one out.
We videotape a variety of people -- “This is your host Sean O’Brien, reporting from the Bread & Butter Show in Barcelona, Spain." Sheesh! I’ll edit the movie and post it on the www.twsbiz.com web site next week -- if not sooner.
But we’re wasted now, completely zonked. It’s 8:00 p.m. and Christy is still asleep and all momentum for the evening has been put on hold as our bodies finally cry uncle. We need a quiet night and one full night of sleep, because I have another big day at the trade show tomorrow and then three very full days of fun after that.
Not very creative right now, sorry.
