Getting There

I'm finally through with reading Product Preview. This is a mammoth 25,000-word rundown of new products from all the snowboarding companies. The marketing gibberish makes it read like Chinese sometimes. Here's an example:

"Asymmetrical Omega Sidecut is a more aggressive sidecut along the heel edge that aids turn initiation on the more energy-consuming heelside turn. This is combined with a less-progressive sidecut on the toe edge to balance energy needed to turn both ways."

There are about 70 companies included, so imagine reading that for eight hours.

But we're getting down to the nub on January. Too bad the February issue is already up in our face and taunting.

I love this time of year.

Anyway, here's a cool Web site with some incredible photos of my favorite place on earth. These high res images are some of the largest ever captured and it's incredible to zoom around, spot the different climbing routes, and even see haul bags and people on the face.

Here are some of the tech details -- which as a wanna-be photographer I found pretty cool:

"We employed Peace River Studio’s PixOrb motion control head to automatically shoot over 300 shots w/ a Canon 1Ds Mk2 and 100mm lens. This resulted in a 3.8 gigapixel, 90,000 pixel-wide image, one of our largest to date. The 22 gig 16 bit file takes over an hour to load in Photoshop. Once open, scrolling the image provides a very immersive experience exploring the various areas and trails of the park."
