The Gang
A fun day at home with our oldest and dearest friends. We've known each other for twenty years (or more) now and understand each other's foibles and blind spots. It's like easing into a warm bath with them, all comfort where you don't have to put on any fake airs.
Lisa I've known the longest. She and Christy went to Junior High School together and I met Lisa when she was seventeen and had bad hair. We've seen a bunch together. Amazing to think of all those years she and Barry where together -- thinking about that shows the march of years as clearly as anything.
Liz and Lisa (and Robyn) were roommates at SDSU, and Liz and Christy and I lived together for years, too, first in that horrible El Cajon Boulevard Apartment and then down in La Jolla.
She denies it, but the first time I met Liz she jumped up on a coffee table and started dancing (gyrating really), then she showed me her Frederick's of Hollywood catalog. She was what, eighteen or nineteen?
She's a dear friend and we're godparents to their children.
Jeff is the nicest, most mellow, most affable guy you could ever meet -- and the perfect foil to Liz's energy. They were High School Sweethearts (she 15 and Jeff 18 when they started dating) and have been together so long I think of them as a singular unit (although they say they broke up a bunch back in the early days -- hard to picture).
Anyway, enough babbling. Enough strolling down memory lane.
Liz and Jeff showed up first and we had Alaskan King Crab legs (a wonderful gift from my sister) and Pilgrims. Then Lisa and Martin showed and the party got started. It's always a bummer when Brian and Robyn aren't around in times like these, but we hold out hope that we may all see each other this summer.
High school sweethearts, still going strong. Liz and Jeff.
