Off To Salzburg

We work through the morning (god bless wireless and digital voice recording) and then catch a train to Salzburg in the afternoon. It's cold and rainy but we spend the afternoon walking around the old town looking for snowboard shops. Here are some photos from that walk and from my crazy, themed out hotel room, complete with flower petals on the bed. Sheesh!

The snowy train ride in from Munich to Salzberg, where we'll spend a vacation day tomorrow.

My room, inexplicably, is a romantic theme roon, complete with flower petals on the bed, a faux tree in the middle of the room, special lighting, and this bathtub in the middle of the sitting area. Josh, who has a normal room, nearly falls down laughing when he sees this over-the-top spectacle.

The graveyard next to our hotel reminds me of where the Von Trapp family hid out from the Nazis in The Sound Of Music (which was filmed here).

We climb this tall hill that's near our hotel and it takes about 30 minutes of steady walking to get to the top. It looks out over a grey and rainy scene as the afternoon light begins to fade. Instead of heading down the way we came up, we took the sketchy, muddy, and incredibly steep path down this old castle wall (ignoring this sign which seems to indicate that we'll die if we aren't careful).

The steep path down the wall was tricky in some places, lead past a homeless camp, over a blowdown of trees, across an overgrown path full of leaves, before finally descending down to the old part of the city via a final, steep and mossy staircase.

The view of Oldstadt and the Castle from near the end of the sketchy wall trail.

Massive pretzels at an open-air marketing in the Oldstadt.

I bought an apple for $1.60 at this stall, which may have been the most expensive apple ever. Luckily, it was delicious. It's trying to snow at this point and my hands are freezing.
