The Complete Annotated Afternoon Ride
My ride through Calavara Hills this afternoon, documented in excruciating detail. Enjoy!

Photo 1: Farmer's fields with Calavara Hills in the back. This is a nice stage in the ride, because you're finally off the streets and the sound of the traffic falls away fast. Soon you can hear the sound of the gravel popping off your tires.
Photo 2: The first half mile or so is a straight-forward shot up this dirt road. Then you hit a bit of pavement that climbs up to the lake. It's a pretty good haul, the first time you really feel remotely out of breath.
Photo 3: They are doing construction work on the bridge. Normally I would cut across it and join the singletrack along its south shore (where I'm standing to take this photo). Today I had to go the long way around to get to this point.
Photo 4: Doofus at the tail end of the singletrack. Pretty nifty self portrait.
Photo 5: Top of the world. This is the start of the best part of the ride, a fast mile and a half section of singletrack that's downhill and all fun.
Photo 6: Mmmmm...Singletrack.
Photo 7: A crappy bit of road with gravel that quickly leads to more singletrack and the farmer's fields.
