Paris Roubaix
Perhaps you, like me, planned your Sunday not around watching the Masters but instead the Paris-Roubaix, the "Hell Of The North."
With its 27 punishing cobblestone "pave" sections, this 259 km race marks the highpoint of the "spring classics" cycling season.
Unfortunately, while I love that Versus covers these great springtime races, the network also picked the very worse time possible this year to cut away to a commercial break.
Unlike last Sunday's Tour Of Flanders, where the drama kept slowly unfolding like a true classic should, this year's Paris-Roubaix really came down to race favorite Fabian Cancellara (red jersey) spotting a moment's inattention by Tom Boonen (the other race favorite; in black, gold and red jersey) and lowering the hammer in a big way. It's subtle drama to a non-cycling fan, but a giddy moment of "There He Goes!" excitement for the tifosi.
Except, of course, if you were stuck watching the commercials on Versus.
(I love it at 7:02 when Cancellara blows by the breakaway and Björn Leukemans angrily shakes his fist at him.)
