And Never Surrender
Dreams are worth fighting for, even when you think you can’t go on.
Less than 24 hours ago, after cracking on the slopes of La Toussuire (18.4 km climb to 6 % - 1 Category) and losing eight minutes to the main field, it looked like Floyd Landis was finished. After crossing the finish line, he skirted the press and left in clear despair. With hip replacement surgery looming in his near future, it looked like his career as a professional cyclist had reached a sad and anticlimactic finish.
But never discount the power of a dream.
Today Landis was a man possessed breaking away from the peloton in what has been called the greatest single day in the Tour de France history.
Today, Landis prodded his self-doubt with the honed edge of desire – sharpened during all those months of training.
Because some things are worth fighting for -- no matter what the odds or how impossible the situation appears. Some things are worth bleeding for, worth turning yourself inside out for. Sometimes you have to believe that the impossible can come true.
And you don’t stop.
(July 27 Update: Never discount the power of a dream? How about never discount the power of dope. Remember kids, Dopers Suck. And remember that things aren't always as they first appear.)
