Nightglow Window

Finally took the vanagon in to get its brakes checked. It’s going to be bad news for sure.

The only upside was that it allowed me to ride my bike into work this morning, down from B&R Buggies on coast highway in south Oceanside and along the no-cell-zone street that runs along the sand, under the pier, down to the harbor, and then up the bike path past the Meth heads hiding in the bushes along the river to work.

It was a pretty morning with a little peaky swell running and the rows and rows of palm trees were leaning ever so slightly towards the ocean -- a subtle indication that the wind was good and the conditions smooth.

It was only about 6 ½ miles, but was a great way to start the day.

The September issue is shaping up nicely and Josh is ahead of the curve, since he’s heading home for 10 days tomorrow. Feedback on the video is uniformly positive, but when I fixed a typo I screwed up the sound synch on the Steve V segment. I’ll have to fix that again tomorrow and repost.

Had lunch with my dad at Oceanside Thai, which is always nice. He was eager to hear about the trip and we talked about Janet (on another RV trip through Alaska with the kids and some friends), Mark (hip deep in a three-month kitchen remodel), and Jane (never figured out what made her so dizzy).

Of course it wouldn’t be a lunch with Dad without talking about Elan, which finally saw a bit of an up tick today.

Edited my photos from MN trips one and two, writing will begin soon, and began the expense-report process for MN two, boulder, cabo remnants, and Europe. (Each receipt a tiny memory: Caribou Coffee, the Stansted express, the crumpled Amex receipt from Azteca Surf shop in cabo.) It’s going to be a total bear to complete with dollars, pesos, kroners, Pound Sterling, and Euros all in the mix. I owe about $4,000 to Amex so I need to get moving on it.

Had some productive meetings about the Web, and it’s nice to see staff-wide enthusiasm for some of the new initiatives. In fact, the meeting ran long and I had to hustle back down to B&R Buggies to pick up the vanagon before the shop closed.

Bad news all right: $1,017 for new brakes and a tune up.

Ouch.
