The Long Way Home
Sydney: "Are we back in civilization?"
Me: "No honey, that's just Red Mountain."
It's 282 miles from Lone Pine to home--a long drive even without traffic.
But I'm getting familiar with the route, so it's not too bad.
I haven't been to Trona, but I think the bottom rung of the ladder might just be Red Mountain, a derelict mining town of wrecked cars and fly-blown shacks. I'm sure the people are very nice there (wink, wink), but what a hole.
We make it back by mid afternoon and I unload and then wash the car.
Good ol' Big Red, she didn't let us down.
Sunrise on Mt. Whitney.
The big lonely south of Red Mountain.
