Horseshoe Meadow
After a long conversation with Bob in the morning we head out to Horseshoe Meadow in the Golden Trout Wilderness. It's found at the top of an incredible climb as the road switchbacks up from 4,000 feet to 10,000 feet.
Surprisingly, though, the area up top is fairly level and we made easy work of the walk into the meadow -- despite Hannah's histrionics about not wanting to go for a hike. As always, a half mile down the trail her frown turns upside down. But we really didn't need to go far before we found the perfect spot.

We spend half an hour finding animals in the clouds as they float over 12,800-foot Cirque Peak.
Hannah, safely back from the hike, admits that she had an "awesome" time.
We stop by the visitor center in Lone Pine to find out about permits. Cottonwood Lakes would be a great first backpacking trip for the girls.
