Rome To Siena
We escaped the crazy traffic of Rome and were soon zipping down the uncrowded backroads in Tuscany, visiting the Tuscan hill town of Montepulciano (Where the Twilight movie New Moon was filmed, so Sydney was in tween heaven) and then Siena.
Our timing was great: tonight was one of the qualifying races for the Palion di Siena, a crazy horse race where riders charge three times --bareback no less -- around the Piazza del Campo in front of at least 20,000 cheering, chanting, banner waving fans. Each jockey rode for his own ward of the city, so passions run high. It was the real deal and an incredible experience.

Montepulciano

Hannah, plum tuckered out after climbing to the top of Montepulciano on our Twilight pilgrimage.

The view from the top of Montepulciano

Go see Twilight and hopefully you'll understand why Sydney was having a kitten at this point. That's us beneath the clock...

Siena -- just like the Crayon. Check out the horse racing track circling the square.
